Rescuers are racing against the time to discover survivors after a deadly earthquake in south-east Turkey.
When the earthquake struck in the early hours of Monday, it killed over 4,800 people and wounded 15,000 more in Turkey and over the border in Syria.
The World Health Organization has warned that the death toll might skyrocket when rescuers locate additional fatalities.
As dawn arrived, rescue workers intensified their hunt for survivors.
Heavy machinery worked through the night in Adana, with lights illuminating collapsed structures and massive slabs of concrete, in images that were replicated around southern Turkey.
When a survivor was discovered or the dead were collected, the work would pause and a shout of “Allahu Akbar” would erupt.
Adana is teeming with homeless people, both those who have lost their houses and those who are too afraid of the aftershocks to return.
Some people were left without shoes, jackets, or phone chargers. Later this week, temperatures are predicted to fall below freezing.
